This region of the state is famous for production of Kosa or Tussar silk, pure cotton and linen saris. Known also as Vanya or ‘wild silk’, it is obtained from species of caterpillars, of the moth genus Antheraea, breed on trees such as Sal and Arjun found in the forests of Jharkhand. The raw silk has a deep golden color and is of good texture. Saree, one of the cloths made of Chhattisgarh hand looms is famous for the special use of the painting techniques of block batik and dabu. In manufacturing some of the sarees, the organic dyes are used. Tribal painting of trees, human figures, flowers, and animals are popular motifs on these Handloom Sarees.
